The superstar of Tamil cinema, made his first public appearance on Saturday (October 29) at a felicitation ceremony for director SP Muthuraman, with whom he had worked in 25 films.
Appearing at a public function for the first time, after his return from Singapore he was spotted in a blue jeans and a white cotton shirt. The actor looked rejuvenated and fit as a fiddle, completely cured of his illness, which had earlier left his fans distraught.
The superstar said he wanted to make his first public appearance at the Sankara Ratna Award being conferred on SP Muthuraman. Rajinikanth at the function said: " Now that I'm fully cured, thanks to prayers and fans love, I thought that I will make my first appearance at SPM felicitation function. I have done 25 films with him and consider him as one of my mentors."
Rajinikanth made it clear that his priorities are to play the hero till the end. The superstar said among thunderous applause : "I have no retirement plans. As a hero my only talent which attracted the viewers is my speed and style on screen. I'm not Sivaji Ganesan or Kamal Haasan who have excelled by their acting powers'. I can only play the hero and as long as I have energy and good health I will continue to act."
Deepavali festival has gone off with little impact to the audience with three major films. And there are some resonant films on the cards for November that the postponed Mayakkam Enna is slated for 11th while STR's Osthi may find the screens a week later. Also on the listing is Sasi Kumar casting Porali directed by his friend Samudrakani which may go on screens on 25th November.
Though there are indications that ME is ready for release at any time with post-production tasks being completed, STR has made some last minute hitches for Osthi. It seems he is not personally happy over the flow of the shooting as a song sequence is still to be completed. Though the director Dharani said the movie will be ready in another fortnight, it is to be seen whether this will be apt.
In addition Udayanidhi Stalin's Oru Kal Oru Kannadi is on shaping with its trailer making impressive responses in Velayutham screens. Story
The prologue of the story starts in pakistan where Home minister of Tamil Nadu is taken blindfolded to terrorists where they plan to disturb the peace of South India with the Home Minister's help. The Home Minister joins them for a huge ransom and agrees to trigger bomb blasts in various places of Chennai. Genelia(Bharathi) plays a journalist who happen to witness the bomb blast tries to uncover the people behind the blasts where she unfortunately loses two of her friends. The baddies who triggered bomb blasts die in a freak accident and Genelia makes use of this situation to make a fictional character with the name Velayudham who dares to kill all miscreants involved.
The story then cut across to Village where Vijay (Velayudham) is portrayed as an innocent caring brother who dares to do anything for her sister Saranya Mohan(Kaveri) and Hansika Motwani plays his love interest. He comes to Chennai to get financial aid from a chit fund for his sister's marriage.He saves people from various dangers without his knowledge . Then Vijay finds out that the chit fund company is a bogus one. What leads Vijay to transform into Velayudham ? How does he save people from danger forms the rest of the story and ends with a fitting climax.
Performances
Vijay's performance takes the movie to the next level. He delivers his best in every aspect, be it songs, comedy , dance or action, and he just outperforms everyone in the movie.
Genelia has a strong characterization in this movie which gives ample scope for performance but she could have been better. Hansika mesmerizes the audience with her cute bubbly reactions and glamour quotient.Santhanam and Suri can be termed as other heroes of the movie where they provide good humour . Saranya Mohan repeats her good sister act yet again . Please Saranya, no more sister characters. Time to move on .
Technicalities
Raja lacks story writing skills but he proves to be a good screenplay writer and caters vijay fans to the core with logical screenplay.Though the second half of the movie drags a little, Raja ends the movie with an apt climax that moves Vijay fans .He proves that he can offer a mass masala entertainer which will be enjoyed by all.
Priyan's Cinematography captures death defying action sequences. The songs are very well captured, especially 'Mayyam Seidhao' and 'Molachu Moonu' songs prove to be a visual treat. Vijay Antony's songs come as diwali bonus for Vijay fans .VT Vijayan's editing could have been much better especially in the second half of the movie .

The most expected film of the year has hit the screens this Diwali and expectations for 7aum Arivu were sky high as it has the successful trio,Suriya-A.R.Murugadoss-Harris who gave us the smash hit Ghajini before. The movie has the star power, foot tapping songs, exaggerated fight sequences and evenseventh sense (hypnotism) but fails to click as a wholesome entertainer. It is the perfect example of a movie which starts off with a bang but eventually loses the plot.
Story
A prelude to the film shows us about Bodhidharman (Suriya), a Pallava prince who travels to China in the 6th Century to enlighten the people there about curing rare diseases and he has also taught them the nuances of martial arts and hypnotism. Bodhidharman even sacrifices his life as per the wish of the Chinese people.
The central plot begins in the present day where Shuba (Shruti Haasan), a genetic engineering student tries to prove a path breaking research which can bring back Bodhidharman. Aravind (Suriya) is a circus artist and he has his DNA almost matching with that of Bodhidharman's. This fact makes Shuba to befriend Aravind but he later feels that she has cheated him in the name of love. Meanwhile, Chinese Government sends Dong Lee (Johnny Tri Nguyen) to start a bio war 'Operation Red' on India. The tiresome climax tells us whether Bodhidharman came back to life or not.
Performances
Suriya as Bodhidhrman is stupendous in his role. Look out for the 'Tejas' on his face and first 20 minutes of the film completely belongs to Suriya. Suriya as the circus artist Aravind is street smart in his role but the character has very little scope to perform except for the climax fight sequence.
Shruti Haasan needs to take some acting lessons for sure. Her expressions are so weak and unconvincing. Johnny Tri Nguyen with a well-built physique performs in his character effortlessly and gives a tough fight to Suriya.
Technicalities
Harris Jayaraj's songs are hummable but where do they fit into the movie? Except 'Oh Ringa Ringa' and 'Innum Enna Thozha', all other songs pop up at irksome places. The background score is pretty ordinary too. Cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran has done a neat job but Anthony's editing is not crisp and to-the-point. There are plenty of loose ends which bring down the pace of the movie.
Yes, there are few scenes which have powerful dialogues which would make you have goose bumps, especially if you are a Tamilian. But, that does not assure you that it will turn out to be a good movie. There are plenty of uninteresting scenes and if at all the movie gains some pace, a song would pop up and annoy you. Also, the hypnotism concept is too much exaggerated which might leave you wondering whether it's a fantasy film. Suriya tries his best to upheld the deteriorating screenplay but it goes in vain. A.R.Murugadoss has tried to throw some light on one of the unsung heroes of our nation. Hats off to him for that but thumbs down for his mediocre screenplay!

Ever since Tamil cinema came into existence, heroines are always looked upon as 'dream-girls' by their fans and the movie-goers. The status of the so-called 'dream-girl', though, doesn't last for more than a decade; one of the top heroines continues to occupy the slot which gets vacated when the particular heroine becomes 'older' or falls out of favour with the heroes, producers and directors.

Vikram is working hard for his next flick Karikalan even as he is gearing up for his forthcoming Raja Paattai. While Raja Paattai is an action masala, Karikalan is a socio fantasy on the lines of Gladiator and Troy.
The movie is set to recreate two major historical cities of the Chola dynasty, called Kaveripoompattinam and Urayur with the help of CG based on the references.
Karikalan will take the audiences back 2000 years to the era of Karikal Cholan. Vikram has three heroines, namely, Zarine Khan, Mithra Kurien and Radhika Apte.
