It’s Amala Vs Amala at the box-office

The dusky actress has nothing much to boast of as far as her films are concerned, as she has not been a part of a big movie with top 5 stars.

But the girl has managed to stay in limelight with her smart PR skills and her link-up with a director.

And today, Feb 17, two of her ambitious films Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal and the bilingual Kadhalil Soddhapavadhu Eppadi (Love Failure in Telugu) is releasing. And not to forget, her Pongal release Vettai is still running in theatres.

Quiz her about it and she says: "I have hundreds of butterflies in my stomach. I am praying that both the films for which I have worked hard should click at the box-ffice".

And which film will she watch first? Says Amala with a mischievous smile: "I am not answering that question as it will create big problem for me. I am keeping that a secret and have told both my unit that I will manage to watch the film on my own and they need not arrange any tickets. I actually feel like running away from Chennai"

Amala adds that she has put in her best efforts to both the films and is keeping her fingers crossed to hear the verdict.

She signs off saying: "Today, I am competing against myself. It sounds strange ..but it's a great feeling".

Winning and losing is part of the game: Vishal

While the fans of Chennai Rhinos and Karnataka Bulldozers go on and on debating the 'controversial' win of the former in the CCL, the skipper of the Chennai team, actor Vishal, would like to see an end to the hullabaloo. Says he in an exclusive interview to DC: "We go by the umpires' decision."

Reacting to allegations that there was foul play on the part of the Chennai Rhinos, Vishal said, "I don't think anyone would have gone to that level to win a match. After all, winning and losing is the game of cricket."

The dusky actor asserts that his entire team worked very hard for the whole season. "The atmosphere was at par with professional cricket. Even Jiiva said, 'I have not worked so hard for a film'. Some of us got badly hurt while playing. At day's end, it is the 'team spirit' that held us together to win the finals".

Ask him as to why they started the game late. "According to T-20 rules, if a team starts the game late, the owner of the team has to shell out Rs 10 to Rs 15 lakh as fine! There was some technical snag, which they had to sort out and hence the late-start."

The actor denied rumours that some of the Chennai Rhinos members came to the field after taking liquor. He laughs it off, "It's not easy for one to play cricket in front of thousands of people after taking liquor. Let anyone prove this allegation, and, here is my promise, we would stop playing cricket," he says.

The Avan Ivan star says that the TRPs of CCL matches have skyrocketed and surpassed even those of IPL matches. "It's heartwarming to note from the TV channel which aired the matches that the rating of CCL, which was played in a professional manner, has gone up and crossed even IPL.

"You won't believe that in a small town like Kochi, there was such a huge turnout and the stadium was overflowing."

However, Vishal signs off, saying, "Sudheep is like my elder brother." Sudheep tweeted, "Let's leave it and move on! I and Vishal did have a talk and he was (sad) about the gestures that were pointed at our dugout from a few of their team members. We are friends first and teams next."

Mollywood lass Shilpa’s Tamil debut

One can't help but notice that of late, importing Mollywood beauties to Tamil seems to have taken a backseat.

But now, mallu girl Shilpa Kavalam is making her foray into K'town. The pretty girl makes her debut in Kaathalan Yaaradi directed by Rajesh Crown, who has worked in a few Malayalam films earlier.

Kaathalan… is a heroine-centric film — a revenge drama about how Shilpa's character settles the score with the killers of her mother who was the district collector. Shivajit is the new hero cast opposite her.

Apart from directing, Rajesh Crown has handled the camera and edited the film as well.

Subject: Actresses who were pregnant before their marriage

In the past, we have seen actresses getting married suddenly and flaunting a baby bump in a month or two. The trend has been a part of Film Industry since quite a long time and while some actresses admit the fact, some fight it till the very end.

Here are a few actresses who were rumored to be pregnant before they got married.

When Sridevi announced her marriage to Boney Kapoor, she was, reportedly, seven months pregnant. Sridevi's relationship with Boney Kapoor was already under the scanner due to the fact that Boney was already married. Sridevi was, perhaps, the only actress who publicly accepted the fact that she was pregnant before her marriage.

Sarika was also involved with a married man - Kamal Hassan, and got pregnant with his child. Hassan was then married to Vani Ganapathy who took strong exception to their illicit affair. Irrespective of the state of their relationship, Sarika went ahead and gave birth to the lovechild, Shruthi Hassan. The two got married later on only to separate equally soon.

No one had a clue about when Mahima Chaudhary got married. People were still reeling from the sudden news of her wedding when she announced her pregnancy. Everything happened a little too soon for people to assume she had fallen pregnant after marriage.

Following Amrita Arora's hasty marriage announcement to beau Shakeel Ladak, tongues started wagging about what really prompted Amrita to take the wedding vows in such a hurry. Amrita's immediate pregnancy pretty much confirmed the reason of her sudden wedding.

Konkona Sen married co-actor Ranvir Shorey in a quiet wedding in September 2010. She gave birth to a baby boy in March 2011 leaving us with no doubt about the fact that she was very much pregnant when she exchanged vows with Shorey. Though the couple never admitted the fact, it was very much clear that the marriage happened because of Konkona's pregnancy.

Cinema theatres to be shut on Feb 23

Theatres across India including Tamil Nadu will be shut down on February 23 in protest against the centre's move to bring cinema industry under the service tax ambit.

A few months back the centre had imposed a service tax of 10.3 % on the film industry.

This led to total confusion in the trade on who will pay the tax-exhibitor or distributor from their net share.

Abirami Ramanathan Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatre Owner's Federation president said: " In keeping with the national decision taken by the film industry there will be no shows in any theatres across India including Tamil Nadu on February 23.The Film Federation of India has proposed this nation-wide shutdown to protest against centre's proposal to levy a service tax of 10.3% on the trade."

Nithya Menen gets great support

She is a bold girl for sure, who never dares to come out with her opinions regardless of what the repercussions are.

But even she was surprised when her name was unnecessarily dragged into a controversy, when she reportedly refused to talk to a few producers who had gone to a set to meet her. Yes, we are talking about Nithya Menen and recently, the distributors' association announced that they won't allow her forthcoming films, Bachelor Party and Ustad Hotel, to get released.

This evoked huge protests from almost everyone. The actors' association AMMA supported Nithya and the exhibitors' federation, who incidentally is in a tussle with the distributors, also announced their allegiance for the heroine. The ban soon has become some kind of a joke by now.

The rumours doing the rounds include one where producer Suresh Kumar is alleged to have masterminded the whole issue as Nithya refused to do his new project Chattakkaari.
Anyway, Tatsamayam oru penkutti, with Nithya in the lead is all set to hit the screens this weekend.

Nayantara-Simbu to patch up!

Until recently they were sharing bad vibes and now it looks like those feelings might disappear soon. We are talking about former lovers Nayantara and Silambarasan, who are likely to team up again for an upcoming film.

The buzz is that Nayantara, who returned to films after breaking up with Prabhu Deva, is being considered by Vetrimaran for his upcoming Tamil movie Vada Chennai. The filmmaker wants to cast the hit pair again, claims a report.

If you can recall, Simbu had earlier claimed that he had no qualms working with Nayantara and it seemed like he was ready to let what betided remain a thing of the past. Now that the actress is single again, she may consider the offer, conclude reports.

Vetrimaran's Vada Chennai also features Andrea Jeremiah. The movie has GV Prakash's music and Velraj's cinematography.
