Podaa Podi Photos

Podaa Podi is an upcoming Indian Tamil romance-comedy film written and directed by debutant Vignesh Shivan, featuring Silambarasan, Shobana and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles, while Meena Latchman playing a pivotal role and director Gautham Menon playing a cameo role. The score and soundtrack of the film are composed by Dharan, while cinematography and editing are handled by Nirav Shah and Anthony Gonsalves, respectively. The film, is currently in its production stage and is expected to release on February 14, 2012 on Valentine's Day

Tweets are the new beeps

Recently Ayesha Takia and the Kingfisher scion Siddharth Mallya were drawn in to a battle on Twitter. While the actress took on the airline, Siddharth took digs at Ayesha and Ayesha didn't hesitate to give as good as she got.

Even our very own stars Dhanush and Simbu are battling it out on Twitter it seems.

Dhanush's who won the Youtube Gold award for Kolaveri came out with his second hit track 'Sachin anthem' that has initiated this war. JR Mediaworks who claims copyright of the tune used in the anthem got Youtube to pull the video. It was later discovered that the person who claimed copyrights was an associate of Simbu.

Later, since the claim was false, Youtube now has the video back on. The two stars then got bitter on twitter as they voiced their opinions. Dhanush wrote, "Some people smile at others misery; I smile right back at them for not knowing the purpose of being a human being. It's called love," allegedly in reference to the 'Love anthem' Simbu is working on currently and is shooting in L.A.

Simbu retorted back with a tweet saying, "Copy adikaradhula Chinaava vida bayangarama irrukangaley (More than the youngsters, it's the adults who seem to be aces at copying), success introduces you to the world but defeat introduces the world to you! Actually, none of us in this world have an enemy."

This a direct reference to the 'copyright' issue as mentioned above. This set off a rage amongst STR and Dhanush fans who took their anger on to social networking sites.

Twitter addict and student Amritha R. says, "It's sad how these celebrities take their fights on to social media. It's just a ploy to mobilise fans and stay alive in the minds of people. But it provides us a good dose of entertainment, so more power to their anger on twitter."

Simbu speaking to DC, said, "I don't have any issues with anyone. I feel it's just blown out of proportion by certain people. I don't wish to be dragged into controversy as I have a lot happening on the work front. I will leave it to my fans and the Tamil people to decide about me and my character."

Novel film themes to inspire youth

The fourteen-year-old student who is charged with killing his teacher Uma Maheshwari on Feburary 9 is said to have been inspired by the Hindi film Agneepath. Perhaps, realising the impact that films have on young minds, film-makers are now toying with fresh themes that promise a change for the better in terms of managing the young.

Following the stupendous success of the remake of 3 Idiots in Tamil titled Nanban, actor Prakash Raj's debut venture Dhoni delivers what is just needed for a shocked society now — a message that children ought to be allowed to pursue their dreams.

Ironically, Dhoni is all about a 14-year old boy who wants to become a cricketer while his father Prakash Raj wants him to become an MBA degree holder.

Even while announcing his decision to debut as director through Dhoni, Prakash Raj said the film would deal with the 'pressure that children undergo these days in the school.'

The release of Dhoni could not have been more appropriately timed. The film opened to critical acclaim on February 10, a day after the murder happened.

"If Agneepath had a negative impact on a kid's mind, films like Nanban and Dhoni will definitely have the right kind of impact on the minds of adults. In fact, it is adults who have got to learn a lot," says Bala Murali, an assistant director.

Nanban, which released on Pongal day, also deals with the system of education in the country.

"Films like Dhoni and Nanban take a critical look at our system. A system of education should be able to produce upright individuals. But ours churn out clerk after clerk. We need more number of such films to make people realise that the fault is with the system and not with the children who are unable to cope," says D.I. Aravindan, a film critic and father of two children.

Like actor Vijay tells his friends in Nanban, if Tendulkar's father had wanted him to be a music director or if A.R. Rahman's father had wanted him to be a cricketer, neither would have been successful. Those words were not meant just for the 'other two idiots' in the film.

Karthi’s Alex Pandian shaping well

Remember Alex Pandian. It was a role played by Rajnikanth in his famous film Moonru Mugam.

The title of actor Karthi's next film has been to be directed by Suraaj has been titled as Alex Pandian.

It may be remembered that the director did not announce the title of this project till date though shooting commenced last September.

Apparently Alex Pandian is the name of the character that Karthi plays in the film and Suraaj has decided that it would be the apt title.

Anushka is paired opposite Karthi in the film. Devi Sri Prasad will be scoring the music for Alex Pandian.
