There was a great protest because of this. Directors such as Bala and Cheran have been advising not to suffix their caste names along with the names. Recently director Karu Palaniappan has vehemently condemned this during a function.
Many of the actresses did not accept this. Actress Sameera Reddy said that she has only included her family name while Janani Iyer has blatantly refused to remove her caste name. Janani Iyer while speaking said, There is nothing wrong for actresses to suffix their caste names along with their names. I will not remove Iyer from my name.
